Life Painting at the Zoo

Faintest Glow

Title: Faintest Glow
Date: January 26, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 16.3" x 21.75"

Notes: While walking out of Zoodles some time ago, I just so happened to pick a good moment of the sky. I tend to have a strange obsession with clouds and it only enhances when I see good color contrast and combinations. I thought it would be fun to finally try and make a go of some environment painting. I really need to start branching out of my comfort zones of just painting portraits all day. Hopefully some good 'ole life painting will help with that.
Hope you enjoy, more soon!

Battling the Consciences

Battling the Consciences

Title: Battling the Consciences
Date: January 18 & 19, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 5.3" x 8"

Notes: Forcing a palette on a study is an interesting way to go about making something 'yours'. I tried to make sure that the colors were very specific so that it fit within certain constraints.
Hope you enjoy!

Impressionism Portrait

Impressionist Ashley

Title: Impressionist Ashley
Date: January 3&4, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 16.5" x 22"

Notes: Going back in time here to try and see how well I can redo an old piece that I did quite a while ago...

Original is here.

I tried to use an impressionist painting technique while doing this piece. Couple that with the techniques learned from previously and this is the result.

Fan Art Friday... err Saturday -- Consistency is Key

Fan Art Friday Saturday: Consistency is Key

Title: Fan Art Friday Saturday: Consistency is Key
Date: January 2 & 3, 2015
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 38.4" x 25.6"

Notes: If you're a fan of Sons of Anarchy, you'd realize that Juice is probably the most consistent character of the entire bunch - at least in terms of appearance. He looks almost exactly the same from season one to the end. It just goes to show that sometimes iconic characters appear where you'd least expect them.

"Commissioned by Ashley" (I can't help it. I love doing work that she enjoys.)

This piece really took some serious concentration. Not only was it an attempt to see how far I've grown since I started, but this was just a challenge to everything that I've learned so far. Every spot on this piece has at least two separate types of brushes, most of the piece has quite a few more, but I learned a very valuable lesson since digital painting, and that's to make every spot have multiple brush strokes to help your eye stay interested.
Hope you enjoy.

Beginning of the New Year

Begin the New Year Right!

Title: Begin the New Year Right!
Date: December 31, 2014
Medium: Photoshop CS6
Scale: Original is 1316px x 1366px

Notes: As a test of how many textures I could smash into one area, Ashley thought this would make an interesting study to try that out. I couldn't agree more.

Hope everyone had a good New Year and I hope everyone has good wishes and prospects for this year!
